DUDE… So you can grow a beard. Hats off to you!
Unfortunately for a lot of men (including most of the guys who read the articles on this website), growing a full beard to begin with is a huge problem.
Of course, the ultimate goal for any of those guys is to find the relevant information that they need from this site in order to grow the beard of their dreams.
So whether you were able to grow your beard naturally or if you somehow followed the tips from this site to successfully grow a beard one hair at a time over a period of months, there comes a time in the journey when it becomes a bit much.
Then, when is a beard too much beard?
Look – The ability to grow a beard is awesome because you have the freedom to style how your facial hair should look like.
If you want to keep the stubble look, rock the mustache or style it up with a tough guy’s goatee, it’s all up to you how you want to portray your own fashionable look of the week.
Although – One thing to keep in mind is that any guy with the power to grow facial hair also has the responsibility to keep it well-groomed.
“With great power comes great responsibility.” – Uncle Ben (Spiderman)
What’s it all mean?
Well, like the hair on the top of your head, just because you have the ability to grow a full head of hair doesn’t mean that you can neglect it.
You need to wash it. You need to style it when you go out. And when it’s time, you also need to go out, find a good barber and have it cut (some people like to cut their own hair, but that’s a topic for a different day).
The point I’m trying to make is – As long as you have hair growing from anywhere on your body, at some point in time, it will become too long and you’ll need to do something about it.
Why, you may ask?
I’ll tell you why; it’s quite simple, actually.
When your beard is too long, it will start to look pretty bad (just like the hair on your head or anywhere else).
Unless you’re going for a certain type of look, a long beard isn’t suitable for everybody, especially when you want to look more proper and professional, and less like a disheveled man looking for work.
Besides, for some people, a long beard simply doesn’t look good (and in some cases, it could do you more harm than good).
There are very few people who can pull it off, and usually, it may have to do with the fact that it is relevant to their way of life.
For example, an actor may need a long beard to play a role. A biker needs a long beard because, well, bikers have long beards. Or – maybe a homeless guy needs a long beard to keep them warm at night when sleeping on the cold streets. I don’t know… ๐
On the other hand, if you are just a normal guy wanting to see if you can “rock the look,” there is a danger that what you think looks good may actually look pretty awful in reality.
Don’t believe me?
There are actually quite a lot of celebrities – yes, people in the public eye – who walks around the streets, attends public events and walks the red carpet – sporting long beards that they might think looks cool, but many people feel otherwise.
Just to give you an idea, here are some of them…

Well, did you watch the full video?
If you just spend about 6 and a half minutes to watch the video above, I promise you that it would be a good investment of your time.
You see, the celebrities in that video – I’ll probably say that a majority (if not all of them – depending on your own personal opinion), are pretty good looking dudes.
I mean – How else would they get into Hollywood, or the music business, or however else they found their fame and fortune.
They’re CELEBRITIES!
Yet, as soon as they grow their beards out, many are quick to note that well, the long facial hair look may not be so suitable for them.
What is the lesson that we have learned today?
You want to know how long of a beard is too long, right?
The answer is that there is no straight answer: It simply depends on your ability to grow a long beard.
Don’t get me wrong… There ARE, in fact, lots of guys who truly and genuinely DO “rock” the long beard in all its lengthy glory.
So if you can pull it off, and you like it, and it actually looks COOL – DO it!
There are thousands of regular guys (myself included) who would love to be able to grow some fashionable facial hair (or even a stubble), so if you actually have the genetic capability to make it happen and you want it, I say don’t let anyone stop you.
HOWEVER – What I’m saying is that up to a certain length (and it can very well be different for different people), the facial hair may start to look… let’s say… “out of control.”
Because let’s face it, just like having long hair on your head, in order for it to look good, you need to maintain it.
You need to wash it, condition it, dry it, style it, moisturize it, and just really take care of it because, well, it’s a part of you, and you care about how you look.
Same with your beard…
You can’t neglect it, and if you feel like you’re going to be lazy and don’t want to spend any money or time to groom it, then you are probably just better off having the entire thing shaved from your face.
A beard is too long when it starts to look bad due to poor maintenance or if you simply don’t have the genetics to grow a nice full beard (yet).
If after reading this article, you feel like you would like to grow out a long beard, the first thing you need to do is to make sure that you are doing what you need to do in order to have the capability to grow a full, thick beard.
There are many articles on this website that addresses this topic, and they are written for men who either have problems growing facial hair or are not satisfied with their current beard and would simply like to make it look better.
